Minuteman G5 MIS Fusion Plate

December 5, 2023

In recent years, medical technology has witnessed significant advancements, leading to the development of innovative treatment tools for spinal disorders and conditions. In this blog, we’ll look at the following:

  • What is the Minuteman G5 MIS Fusion Plate?
  • How long does Minuteman procedure last?
  • How much does the Minuteman procedure cost?
  • How does TPC utilize the Minuteman G5 MIS Fusion Plate?

What is the Minuteman G5 MIS Fusion Plate?

The Minuteman G5 MIS Fusion Plate is a posterior, supplemental fixation device. In other words, it’s a medical device used in spinal fusion surgery designed to provide immobilization, stabilization, and fusion of the spinal segments. It’s minimally invasive, with a variety of sizes to best fit each patient anatomically.

Some of the unique features of The Minuteman G5 Fusion Plate include the following:

  • 60° Wing Angle. Designed to provide improved biomechanical stability in response to axial rotation and lateral bending loading.
  • Hydroxyapatite Coated Fixation Hex Nut. A substance that helps promote bone on-growth and fusion. Maximizes bone-implant contact area to promote stability and fusion.
  • Full Control Over Implant Wings. Allows the user to deploy and retract the wings intraoperatively.
  • Single Piece Implant Body. Minimizes device profile without the need to remove a portion of the threaded body.
  • Lower Profile Compared to Minuteman® G3-R. Allows the implants to be inserted down a smaller diameter sleeve from the MIS Lateral approach.

How Long Does Minuteman Procedure Last?

The procedure is outpatient, typically lasting 30 to 60 minutes in total. Post-operation recovery is less than an hour and is significantly shorter than a traditional spinal fusion surgery.

How Much Does the Minuteman Procedure Cost?

The Minuteman procedure costs approximately $20,000 in an outpatient setting and doesn’t require additional overnight hospital costs. Most health insurance plans cover the procedure once a doctor determines it is medically necessary.

How Does TPC Utilize the Minuteman G5 MIS Fusion Plate?

TPC Spine Fuse uses the Minuteman Fusion Plate as one of our several minimally-invasive surgical solutions.

TPC Spine Fuse targets spinal degeneration, usually brought on by stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and related conditions. It works to alleviate pain due to pressure on the spinal cord and instability that causes painful movements of the vertebrate.

In this procedure, a small incision goes into the back under live X-ray guidance. A device is placed between the spinous processes that fuse the segment. This gives the back stability, where the bones shift forward and backward. Our procedure can also be done through alternative approaches (a posterior, oblique, or lateral approach) depending on each individual’s needs.

In using the Minuteman approach, we may come from the lateral position. You’ll talk with your TPC provider about whether a posterior or lateral approach from the side might be better.
