What is Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction?

Sacroiliac joints connect together the hips and the pelvis to the legs and the entire upper spine. Sacroiliac joint dysfunction can occur for several reasons but ultimately comes down to a degenerative change in those large sacroiliac joints. This osteoarthritis can happen sometimes because of age or the result of trauma. And there might even be an instance where the sacroiliac joint gets extra loading and pressure because of a lumbar spine fusion.

Studies are clear that patients that receive an L5 to sacrum fusion often have 168% more dynamic loading on those sacroiliac joints than otherwise. Through a series of examinations and small injections into the sacroiliac joint, we can determine whether or not you have a sacroiliac joint dysfunction.

Causes of SI joint pain are varied some of the common factors are:

  • Prior injury or accident
  • Postpartum pelvic girdle pain
  • Ligamentous loosening during pregnancy
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Low back instability or prior low back surgery

How Does TPC Sacral Fuse Work?

TPC Sacral Fuse is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that places a small fusion device under live X-ray guidance right into the sacroiliac joint, thereby fusing that joint. It’s the instability, the movement of that joint, that keeps causing the pain. All that’s needed is a small bandaid-sized incision and a small apparatus to fuse that joint to relieve a significant degree – if not all – of the pain.

TPC Sacral Fuse utilizes three distinct minimally invasive surgical solutions for patients with sacroiliac joint dysfunction that have failed to respond to conservative treatments:

  • LinQ™ procedure by PAINTEQ
  • SILO™ implant by Aurora Spine
  • CornerLoc™ device

Expectations and Recovery

TPC Sacral Fuse is a simple, minimally invasive solution that takes about 20 minutes in the operating room as an outpatient procedure, and it’s a great way to cover sacroiliac joint dysfunction and get you back into life.
