Elliquence: Key Things to Know

This blog will explore a groundbreaking tool employed at The Pain Center: Elliquence technology.

What is Elliquence?

Elliquence is a global medical device manufacturer offering advanced technological radio wave solutions and medical technology. Headquartered in Baldwin, New York, Elliquence specializes in developing devices for minimally invasive surgery, including neurosurgery, endoscopic surgery, orthopedic, and pain management.

What Does Elliquence Make?

Elliquence designs equipment for minimally invasive procedures, including radiofrequency and neurosurgical devices. They offer several instruments to treat spinal conditions listed below:

  • Disc-FX System
  • elliquence Endoscopic Spine Systems
  • Surgi-Max Drill
  • Trigger-Flex
  • Bi-Tip™

Elliquence surgical tools aid in procedures for spine-related conditions. The Disc-FX System is used in patients with degenerative disc disease or contained herniations. Elliquence Endoscopic Spine Systems are used in procedures to treat disc herniations, facet denervation, and spinal stenosis. These are just a few of the conditions that Elliquences’ tools can be used in procedures to relieve chronic pain.

What is an Endoscopic Discectomy?

An endoscopic discectomy is a minimally invasive surgery that treats herniated discs in the spine. The process involves inserting a medical device with an attached light (endoscope) into a small incision in the back to create a pathway to the herniated disc. The endoscope locates and displays the area on a monitor, giving surgeons a clear view as they remove the herniated portion of the disc using surgical instruments. This lifts the pressure on the spinal nerves that are creating the pain.

What is a Disc-FX Device?

Elliquence’s Disc-FX System uses the Disc-FX device to perform minimally invasive surgical procedures on patients with degenerative disc disease and spinal herniations. The system uses two instruments: the standard Disc-FX and The Disc-FX Mini. The standard Disc-FX is used in discectomies on contained herniations in the lumbar and thoracic spine. On the other hand, The Disc-FX  Mini is used to treat cervical-contained disc herniations. Both devices in the Disc-FX System can be used to treat annular tears.

How Does TPC Use Elliquence?

We use Disc-FX with Elliquence in our TPC Disc treatment (Endoscopic Discectomy). This treatment focuses on treating herniated discs. Being minimally invasive, the TPC Disc is an outpatient procedure, and patients can return home the same day of surgery with little to no downtime.

In this procedure, a physician uses a tubular device to extract segments of the herniated disc and scar tissue, enabling compressed nerves to return to normal. After removing the damaged portions, the surgical device is taken out, allowing the surrounding tissue to close around the surgical site naturally. The small incision is then covered with a bandage, and the patient is typically discharged shortly after that to begin their recovery process.
